Hi Fellas. i have been told that the power steering from the VT-VZ Commodores have a tendencey to boil if your too hard on them or if you take it out to a track day like at Wakefield Park, is what i want to try. My understanding that the BA Falcon use a simular brand and style of power steering unit as the Commodore but they arent boiling over. And they dont have a power steering cooler on them. what type of oil do they use?

The Holden steering system is not as well designed as the Ford one. To dampen the steering, Holden restricts the flow in the power steering system, which in turn makes the pump work harder, generating more heat. Fitting a cooler is the best fix.

Just about all power steering systems that are not road-speed sensitive have a droop flow valve in the pump that limits the pressure the rack sees when engine revs are up, and gives full pressure to the rack at idle & low RPM.

Fluid flow is definitly restricted. We were involved with the development of the VX / VY / VZ system.
