Howdy All, Took the family truckster (ex-telstra VT wagon) to the mechanics for a service & he said that 'the engine mounts have dropped' which will cause rubbing between the sump & cross member. He said this is a common thing & quoted around $300 to fix. Is he full of it?
Also, its got 120 thou on the clock & has started getting a mad vibration at 100-110k's. Had all the wheels balanced & new tyres on the front. One on the rear is new as well & the tyre bloke who sold me the front ones (to fix the vibration [!]) didn't think it was out of round or anything. I'm going to take it to the local Holden mech to get it diagnosed, but can anyone give me a 'heads-up' on what it could be? It's not from the front, steering or brakes & it gently shakes the whole car.

Hi Beige.
Yes, 'dropped' engine mounts are common on VN to VZ V6s. They are an hydraulic type mount, so when they sag, the 'safety bar' (not the sump) hits the crossmember & this does cause a lot of harshness & vibration. $300 is a fair price for the w |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Dr Terry. I have replaced a couple where the sump has been rubbing on the front of the k frame. Some people dont seem to care about the harshness of the engine when they hit the safety bar and just keep driving them.Normaly until you show them what it is Edited by user Saturday, 6 January 2007 7:43:32 AM(UTC)

Thanks guys, maybe I can kill two birds with one stone. I was racking my brain to think where the vibration might be comming from - I didn't ever think of linking the two!
