Hi All

I see some of you are saying that 186/202 motors bored +60 get hot. Are we talking at high speed and high RPM or when caught in traffic?
I was told by an engine builder it is when they are working hard this could be a problem rather that at low speed, but I am not sure.

Any opinions on this would be appreciated

I'm listening too but I'm not 100% convinced as yet. I've seen plenty of 307's bored to 4" and oversize 4" and they seem to be OK. Am interested to hear more as this is new to me.

I am running a 202 60thou over, when running down the highway she sits
happily at about 180F. But in traffic she gets hot. I am running a 14" thermo fan and my system is clean but she still gets hot. And the 60thou over bore is a good part of that but if

The other problem I have seen on countless occasions, particularly with SBC's is that thermo fans are useless if not installed correctly - and I never got one to work correctly. I've had iron headed 350's and 327's in HQ-HZ's with brand new 4 row radiator

i'm no expert but just looking at the physical dimensions of a 'viscous' factory fan and shroud compared to a 1" thick thermo tells me which one moves more air, at any given speed.
nothing against thermo fans but the fact is they were

Anti freeze or to much of it will cause it to get hot. Anti freeze doesnt disapate the heat as well as water so use less in hot areas.
Also saturn black on the radiator also wont let the heat go and more so on gloss black.. The best colour to disapate he
If its not broke it will be soon

A matt surface increases the emmissivity of any metal (to almost 1.0) and allows it to lose head by radiation and convection. So does increase in surface area as the amount of heat radiated is a function of surface area. That is why a cable will dissipate
