Hi all, a 308 HP block has just come into my possesion. From what i understood these blocks arent anything special other than being the oldest 308 from the HT line up(Broughams?) ot somewhere around that vintage. But i was also lead to believe they may have a greater nickel content and be similar to the L34 block strength wise.

Putting all this aside is it worth anything to a restorer? its still wearing all the original accessories and the 4bbl carb is all original still.

It also has a HK sump. Are they same as HT, ive never compared the 2.

To me its just 308, but it is worth saving for a resto i wont go to town on it.

Eng number is 308H27XX but i couldnt find a cast number anywhere on it other than the HP.

thanks

No such thing as a HK Holden V8 sump as the 253 and 308 weren't released until HT, so the sump you have is HT or HG.
Definitely worth something to an early HT 308 Monaro restorer, but as most of the 308's in HT Monaros had a 308 casting mark it may be ha

307 and 327. Both Chev V8's. HT had 253, 308, 307 and 350. HG had 253, 308 and 350. So any Holden V8 (253, 308) sump with the centre hump has to belong to HT or HG (barring any wierdo examples that may exist like Hurricane, Bedford, AlfaSud Frankenstein e

If it had steel crank and rods then they werent original. Castings for the block are the same as HQ.

A HP cast engine isnt right for a HG. All HG 308 have 308 on the side. What is the build date of your HG? I may have one that suits it, but its been decked so has no 308H number on it.

Rare Spares are going to redo the consoles, and I think Harrisons in QLD do the woodgrain. What you will need to get is the stainless strip that joins the 2 x half consoles together as this is not going to be remade as per original.
I'm not that good on

The stainless is nearlly impossible for them, and the consoles are supposed to be spot on. I'm not sure of their timeframe. About 6 months ago they were chasing me for a console for a template.
