Hi All,
I have a 79 F100 (351) and was wanting to change from Manual to Auto, and have a few questions,
1. What gearbox did they come out with?
2. is there a better gearbox to convert it to?
3. is T-Bar ot Column auto easier to set up?

Vehicle is RWD and it is mainly used as a daily driver, with the odd towing duties for car and trailer, also used on yearly trips away. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Matt

I think they came out with either the c4 or FMX. The fmx is a heavy box but reasonable robust. The C4 is a good average auto box but is easily tricked up to a super tough box which is used in many drag cars. As Keogh said, the C10 is a good box but you

Thanks: 1 times
I can tell you the C6 for the cleveland is a heavy moungrel. Much heavier than the FMX which in turn is heavier than the C4.

ah OK then,
so do you think the C4 would handle the job of towing in the F100, as I can get a cheapish one, and get it rebuilt, is there anything I should be getting done to it when it is freshened up??

G'day Matt
I have a SWB 4X2 79F100 it came stock with a 351C/C6/3.5:1 9 inch LSD.
Its a pretty tough drive line.
Mines a coloum shift but if I was doing a conversion I think I would just go the floor shifter.
Hope this helps
Mike
