I was told recently Holdens had a M22 4 speed is this correct and if so how would it differ from the M21 4 speed.

m22 was used a lot in 1 tonners the difference is the gear ratios

It was only ever made as a 6cyl box, but you can use a V8 3spd input shaft to convert to a V8.

Does the M22 have no machine lines on the input shaft. i have a aussie 4sp here.i bought it at a swap meet. its got no machine line on the input shaft but its got 82911 stamped on the main bearing. does that mean anything?

Not really. Ignore the machine lines as they always stuff you up. The number on the input shaft will help you more. Just look on my website for the part numbers. If it's an aftermarket part just the last 3 digits of the part number will appear on the part
