I have just bought myself a 2 owner HQ GTS 4 door. I have most the car i all original and all complete. I have been given another motor and need to know whether or not its the original motor and whether or not the fron railings have been changed.

should check the date on the block,3 stands for 1973 4 stands 1974,also should be other markings i think -a or b c which stands for the month of that year.what month/year model on the plates.

HQ engine numbers ended around the 550XXX so motor 2 would be a HJ-X.

Sorry forgot to add check the number on the chassis next to the steering box, against the tag number CHQ04494M they should match for an original chassis.

Grab the engine date casting details and post them up here.
It is a 3 or 4 digit alpha-numeric code cast on the top front of the block near the water pump.
This will tell you exactly what day that block was cast.
While you cant 100% verify it is

Hi Guys.
If the chassis number (on the rail) is DHQ00219M and the chassis number on the ADR Compliance plate is CHQ04494M, then the chassis rails have most likely been changed. These 2 numbers should always be the same as each other.
