hello, I'm a new user to these forums and I need some advice from the experts.

I have a 1976 Falcon with a 250 engine and a 3 on-the-tree auto. I want to put in a V8 plus a manual preferably as I like the rumble. I have been receiving conflicting reports on how to do this best so I'm here to ask for some help (Last Ford I had was an XM years ago that I left as stock anyway).

What parts are interchangable throughout the Ford range? I am looking at a couple of XD's and XE's that are running 351's with 4 speed manual boxes. Assuming I don't need a 9" (my boy racer days are behind me) what would I need to do the swap? I'm a bit confused about "engine plates" etc etc.. I would have thought I'd just need V8 mounts, is this correct? What are "engine plates/".....can I use my existing gearbox xmember? If not, would the XD/XE crossmebers fit my XC ? Are the tailshafts ok to use? Should I swap the borg warner diffs from the xd/xe to the XC ? What about 4 wheel disks? I have drums on the back presently. Are the manual steering coloumns the same or interchangable between XE and XC ? What about the manual clutch pedal? Could the XE pedal assembly be made to fit the XC ? Assuming I had a 351 + 4 speed XE sitting next to my XC, what parts would swap right over and what would I be missing ? I don't care about originality so if I needed to chop and grind a bit to make a radiator fit, that's not an issue...know what I mean?

I'm sorry for all the questions but I'm a bit lost and I'm afraid I'll get ripped off if I don't do my homework. This won't be a big budget car...more like a budget car. I'm thinking of spending about $500 on the donor car if that gives you any indication. I'm a bit in the dark.

thanks in advance !!!

Thanks Rob !

So you're saying that assuming I get a manual 351 complete XD or XE then I should be set ? I'm wondering about the tailshaft though?, wouldn't XC and XE be different lengths ? Also, how hard would it be to fit the rear disks from an XE to

Front suspension will swap over too. I think you will find the tail shafts will also be the same length. Only thing with the XEs is that they had a watts link rear so the mounting points for the diff will be different. XD diffs will fit straight in. D

Yeah mate, the power steer will drop straight in. You can also use the power steer pump and box out of the XF 6s. Just need the V8 pulleys and brackets. Not sure if the lines are the same between the V8s and 6s. Best pump I've found is the later XE, X
