I have a ZH Fairlane I'm wrecking to get bits for my XC sedan.
The ZH has a 351 on straight gas and I think it has an FMX tranny and a 9". I want to put the engine and diff into my XC (along with a singlerail).

Now, 2 questions....
1: The gas tank has two pipes running into it, one on the left with a valve and what looks to be some sort of solenoid thing..which I assume goes up to the engine bay ? I have closed off this valve but what worries me is the other pipe. It runs into the tank and has a gauge next to it but no visible valve or anything..is this normal ? If I disconnect this pipe will gas escape ? I'm assuming this is the filler pipe and it doesn't seem to have any way of shutting it off.....unless it's a one-way valve ? I need to get the gas system removed tomorrow as it's the only time I have available...

2: I'm trying to get the engine outbut leave the FMX in (as I won't be using the trand anyway)... I have removed 6 large bolts from around the torque convertor housing and 3 little ones from the bottom that hold sole plates on..plus the two bolts that hold the starter...is this all ?...I haven't missed any ?... just checking before I put the hoist on as I'd hate to miss one that I can't see and have it all not move...

Your help is GREATLY appreciated !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cheers!!!!

Don't foget to unbolt the earth straps. Take the bonnet off the car before you try taking the engine out. It will give you a lot more elbow and lifting room. The FMX will also have a vacuum hose running into the manifold. Don't forget to disconnect th

Paul,

So the FMx doesn't have any other bolts I've missed ?

The bonnet is already off and the vacuum advance is gone too.......I didn't know about earth straps, I'll make sure to look for them

Can't remember how many bolts the FMX has Dave. You should be fine though. With the earth straps, I was talking about the ones on the motor itself, not the gearbox just incase you misunderstood. Also the FMX uses a kick down linkage as well. Is that di

Well, I got the 351 out..finally...after much swearing (and forgetting one bolt on the starter.)..and yes, tranny oil did flood out a bit but that's ok as I'm not going to use that tranny anyway.

Now I have to get the power steering and 9" rear end out
