Howdy,
After much deliberation on carbies, I've got a twin strombie set up. Now, are all strombergs the same - how can I tell if I have got a matching pair? I assume there are different jets used in a twin set up - any advice? Thanks heaps to everyone for all the info re carbs etc etc etc over the last couple of agonising months, trying to get the old girl back on the road!

If the supplier did not tell you they are a matching set they are not. You will never get them to run right. They will drive you mad trying. You should put them into a carbi shop and get them rebuilt. Tell the shop they are going in as a set so they make

Hi Beige.

The only factory twin Bendix-Stromberg set-up was the HD/HR X2 & they used 2 x 149/161 carbies which had 1 3/32" venturis. The size is cast on the side of the float bowl, near the needle & seat fitting. They also have BXUV-2 cast into the thr

Johnperth- Decided against the VK injection a while ago (scared of efi - sad, isn't it?), but thanks for the advice.

Dr Terry, I'm happy to take your word as gospel as I've read your posts before - just to clarify, why are the BXUV-2 the only carbies

Hi Beige.

If you use the larger carbies, the result is a flat spot that is difficult to remedy. It's a bit like running a 500 Holley instead of a 350, it's just too big.

I don't think these carbies are too hard to find, just like anything else from

The 149 carbies had a chronic flat spot from new, Holden never really cured it.

The most common cause of flat spots is not enough fuel when the throttle is opened.
It's been a lotta years since I looked at at stromberg, but from memory, they have a linkage that connects to to accelerator pump plunger which has a coupla holes in it.

The motor is an old GEM re-build, so it's stock-as-a-rock. Exhaust is extractors & 2". It's a 'meantime motor', while I decide weather to rebuild another 186, fix the 308 or just start on a 3800 conversion (sigh). It's just heart-breaking having the 308 i
