I have a 1990 ea wagon and I drove home all ok, stopped the car and then returned to drive off and nothing happened when I turned the key. Has all dash lights and 12.5 volts at battery.
I checked the back of the ign barrel and had power, checked the relay bank under the bonnet and they were working and I had a live wire when the key was in the start possition, when I checked the red wire to the stater solinoid there was nothing...I'm at a loss as to what to check or what the issue is??
the car will push start and run, just won't start on the key.
please help as I need the car for the morning.

The red wire to the starter soleniod... what? Get your meter out again. You will, short of having really bad battery terminals, have 12V at one side of the solenoid on a big ass cable. What is supposed to happen when you turn the key is that 12V should fl |

My EA did the same (just before I sold it).
I had dash lights and my meter showed just over 12 volts at the battery.
I cleaned and reseated battery terminals - no change.
I tried another battery and it started fine.

If the signal wire to the starter isnt giving any power at all then i dont think its the battery. If you connect +ve on the battery to the signal plug on the starter solenoid and it all works then its probably just a broken wire somewhere. You should be a

Found the sucker, it was the red plug fusable link (blk wire)that had broken right at the crimped joiner hiding under the insulation on the joiner. I put the multimeter across it and found high resistance, once insulation bared the break could be seen.
