Hey guys,

Im getting myself a new diff and tailshaft for my car, since the old tailshaft broke and i have found out it was suited for the 302 not the 351.

anyways im getting a 9inch LSD with disc brakes, i have a question bout what ratio i should get.

i have a chunky cam, im not sure if that affects what im after but anyways. what i am after is not a superfast car. i would be happy if my top speed was 150-160kmh aslong as i can get there super fast. eg i will be at 150 before the tool in the vn commo next to me gets to 100. wow im proud that was a good example lol.

so yeah im not sure what ratio i need, i can never remember if the higher the ration means quicker takeoff or higher top speed. could someone help spread some light on this situation...!

With diffs, a high ratio is a low number as it gives a higher speed per revolution of the motor and a low ratio is a high number as it gives a lower speed per revolution of the motor.

For example: With a 3:1 diff, the motor turns over 3 times for each

My 'ol 250 (with a fair bit of work) runs a C4, 3000 stall and 3.7ratio borg warner lsd.
Your stall speed will have more effect on how the car operates with the cam (assuming you run an auto) than actual final drive ratio. Think about it... if your cam m

It'll fly...
Rev the engine to, say, 3500.
Hold it there a minute or two.
Think you can put up with that? Then go for the gears you mentioned...

I agree 3.5's the go. If your engine is stock? It'll run ou of rpm at your desired speed.

Go gas research!
My XF is faster than my EL ever was, and is still cheaper to run... Guessing your car would be making a touch more power than mine, however...
Have you lined up someone to tune it properly? Gas research set ups tend to respond better t

4.11 gears are good for speed and 2.7's or 2.9's are great for cruising but still got the guts when you put the pedal to the metal

Is the cam a hydraulic or solid flat tappet? A hyd cam generally doesn't go from more than about 6000rpm which with a 3.5's good for around 200ishkph. 2.7's or 2.92's aren't any good for decent cammed engines. They just cause the motor to labour and deton
