Hey guys Im pretty sure this topic has been covered before, but what is it with 'all matching numbers'? I know on the Qs to WB the vin and chassis and compliance plate numbers all match, but how come people keep including the engine in the matching numbers? isnt it true that its just a date stamp and thats about it? are the earlier models, (KTG) the same setup? Isnt it kinda impossible to tell if the car has the original engine unless you have the owners logbook?

Well actually the VIN and Chassis number do not match, the VIN is sequencial from 1/1/68 and the chassis number is sequencial for that model.

The WB engines are sequencial from part way through the HZ when they ran out of numbers that were sequencial f

That is interesting, as the Chassis number is taken from there and then placed on the compliance plate, therefore your compliance plate would also not have a chassis numebr on it. ( if it was your job to stamp out the compliance plate and a car came witho

i include engine in 'matching numbers'. on my HJ GTS's authenticity letter, it has the original engine number, which matches the number on the side of the block: QR.... etc.

It is difficult as GM-H records do not go back that far, but there are a few people that have collected heaqps of data from genuine cas and can tell you if the numbers "match"

If you wish to email me I can tell you what thye ar or post here.

Interesting about the HQ chassis without a chassis number. I replaced the 3/4 chassis on my HJ in 1987 and used the one off a neighbours HQ that he'd rolled in 1974 and it had sat in the shed since! Anyway I pinched a lot of parts off it including the c

All the replacement chassis' i've seen have had no numbers. I had a WB tonner with one, and a friend bought a brand new WB tonner chassis in the early 90's and it didn't have one either. Luckily for him he ordered a HQ one, and the HQ number superceded to
