Iv heard different stories and different ideas from many people about how these motors were different. Were all the engines made the same? or was there a high performance engine fitted in some models? Im looking at geting an engine to rebuild so im not sure wat to look for. Cheers

They are all the same. Black engines have an EFI engine of course, and the carby engine has a flywheel locating dowel plus air pump holes in the head (like a blue 173 in a VH). The only difference is basically the engine number (WL, VL, VK, WM etc) and th

The black 202 EFI heads were supposed to be slightly different.
No air pump holes, sodium filled exhaust valves ( no idea why ),
reshaped ports around the short turn radius, and back cut intake valves.

I have both types of heads, but have not tried t

The Black head you may aswell call it a yella terra , there pretty good except for they have a tendency to crack .

Ok so it looks like geting a black efi motor is the best bet then. Im already running the efi setup neways. Any major problems i should look for before i go buy one? cheers

Make sure it's engine number starts with VK. If it's got VL it's not an original EFI engine.
