G'day all. The Trimatic in my HQ shifts very hard, particularly under moderate throttle. It was apparently given a std rebuild prior to my purchase of the car a year or so ago. The shifting has pretty much been like this since I got it. Any ideas?

it probably has a shift kit this is a good thing

Hi HQ308,

I've had some past experiences with "clunky trimatics" and just about everyone you ask says something different about why they clunk. I had a WB Caprice with the standard trimatic and 2.6 diff. When I bought it, the guy before had spent $900

Rhys, I didn't think about all those possible causes actually. But as it turns out I've recently replaced the unis and the diff (9 inch 3.25 LSD).

Could it be something to do with engine vacuum? The engine runs a bit cr

If yours is a HQ 308 box it will have a firmer shift than a later model box. From what I have been told. The later boxs shifts were softened up to make them smoother.But I was also told that softer = more slip in the change.From what I have seen on the in
