Adam, Ive already got the motor to run the car (red 202 block with mild cam and blue internals, with original GTR head). Im keeping an eye out for a 173S block so the car could be returned to origi

LJ GTR = JL prefix

LJ GTR XU1 = JP or NP (Factory replacement).

Yeah, a JP would have to be worth more than $5K nowadays!

note that the 173S was available in LC GTR only.The 161S had a prefix of 2600S and was rated at 125 bhp.
Both of these motor options were dropped for the LJ.

Neither of my books list the 173S as an option.
i am interested to know more??

Hi Adam, Cloudy,

No guarantee on the accuracy of my memory, but I think LC changed to 173S in about July 1971. Mine was first registered about July 71. Supposedly, the Aussie 4-speed replaced the Opel box in about June 71, but mine has an uncommon comb

Dr Terrys '50 years of Holden' book lists the 173S I believe that not to many were built with this motor it would be a rare car now , it would be rarer than a 161S for surviving numbers. The opel 4 speed was still used in the LJ but only for export models
