G'day fellas. i have a petrol smell in the cabin of my HZ van. i have just put on a new standard fuel pump and replaced the rubber fuel hoses and clamps as they were cracking. now i have a fuel smell. theres no smell in the engine bay,no smell under the van and now visable wetness around the tank and i took off the inside panel near the filler neck and no sign of wetness there either. its the same smell if im driving or its been parked for days. when i filled it up i never spilled any. it now has about 1/4 of a tank and it still smells. Any ideas would be great... thanks............ Jamie

Its a pain in the arse, but check all the vapour/return rubber hoses-it only takes 1 cracked one to stink up the car.Try the charcoal canister if its still there-sometimes they clag up and push vapour back up the lines and you end up with a nose full of fu

Hi Jamie,

Ingles is spot on in his diagnosis, as you will need to check all your rubber hoses in the cavity where your fuel inlet pipe is.

I had the same problem with my XD wagon and it was caused by friction of one of the three rubber hoses rubbing

One thing that is often overlooked is the fuel cap.Pre ULP and their screw type threads the caps were either vented or non vented. It may pay to check that you have the right cap for the right application. It may have been replaced with the wrong type.Vente
