GDay, I am just after other peoples thoughts on the option to modify slightly or to keep my HX Sandman original as possable. It is an original HX sandman with Persian Sand paint and Chamois Interior, 308 M21 4 speed. I have owned for 2 years and is cahssis of stripped at the moment. It is currently Mandarin Red. Twin headlight front with GTS guards. Rear Discs, Diff and some suspension/steering painted dark red already. I Am having some serous debates with myself. Before I go to Far. My planning was Paint Mandarin Red, Chassis etc Painted dark red/burgandy engine and trans to match. Interior seats black with Dark red/burgandy inserts. and door cards to match. Engine 454 Big block chev was to be tremecTKO but $$$ now turbo 400 auto. Straight gas.Spoke to Engineer already everything in place.
As I am not that keen on Persian Sand colour, this wil be changed. My main questions being should I just paint chassis black and keep 308 4 speed combo(not numbers matching) and redo Interior original but black. I plan on keeping this van for a while. your thoughts and input much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

My advice to people looking to modify collectable cars is to make it look original ie paint, interior etc but change mechanicals to your heart's contenet. Just don't modify it in a way that is hard to change back, like flared guards, side windows, sunroof |

See, now that's the problem with a 'collectable' car isn't it? You don't want to do anything that would de-value the car in another collectors eyes, 'cause it wont be worth as much. I'd paint it an original colour, even if it's not that car's actual colou

Collectable cars are definitely a problem for that reason, but on the flip side the best ones to spend any money on are the collectable examples as they will always have a residual value. Compared to say a 173 VB Commodore. Spend $10,000 on a Sandman van |

I'll be glad when my Sandman ute is back on the road, looking all original. Has been off the road over 2 yrs now. So I built an imitation HQ Sandman van to have some fun in the meantime. Painted the same colour as the ute, so I'll have a matching pair w

You need to upload them to Photobucket or somewhere similar and use the IMG tag in your post here to display them.

"Collectable" is the key word there, isn't it.
I have a fairly high km but very well maintained 1 family G-Pak Torana, and a 2 owner low km very original HQ Belmont ute, with a few factory mods (such as LSD). While neither of these cars will ever be w

True enough... it's probably the way I'll eventually go. Until you hear it, or pop the hood, it still looks original.

At least now you will not be struck by lightning as you have certainly made the right decision. Now no more thinking unclean thoughts, OK?
