When converting a HQ to disk Rear do you need to change booster & MC or can you just change Proportion Valve?

Hi Matt.
It's not essential to change the m/cyl and booster, but you do need to remove the residual pressure valve from the existing m/cyl as a minimum. It is adviable to fit a disc brake proportioning valve, because the drum unit won't allow enough pr |

I assume you mean sedan/wagon? You'll need to remove the valve under the driver's floor. You can use a disc/drum master cylinder but you have to remove the check valve from the rear circuit outlet in it. Just screw a self tapper into it and pull it out. |

Thanks guys, sorry yes it is a HQ Statesman I purchased he said he done the conversion but he hasn't. The brake peddle goes flat to boards so I think the booster is gone too as I can hear air coming from it. Have a HZ Booster on the way but have a nice sh

Hi Matt,
The HQ pushrod and (I think) brake pedal are different to the later ones.
If you are going to use an HZ booster, you'll also need to use an HZ pushrod and brake pedal.

Hi John.
You have a choice of the one mounted near the RH upper control arm on an HZ Statesman or GTS or any other HZ with factory rear discs. Or you can use the whole m/cyl and booster off a WB Statesman, because the proportioning valve is integral wi |

Aren't the brake line fitting threads metric on WB's? If so, you'll need to have some conversion lines made up with imperial fittings at one end and metric on the other if you decide to use the WB brake parts.

Hi Dave.
Yes, that is correct, but you're re-plumbing it anyway because there is no separate proportioning valve block and no need for a T-piece for the front 2 lines. The HZ valve is simpler and easier, but the WB set-up is an alternative plan, if you |

Guys On the HQ they ran a seperate propotioning valve on the disc brake models. It is under the car near where the handbrake cable comes thru the floor pan.Drum brake HQs did not have the proportioning valve at all they just had the pressure warning conne Edited by user Tuesday, 17 April 2007 9:27:14 AM(UTC)
