can anyone shed some light on a 308.......QT529547.....casting number D230. Came out of a HQ tonner, but not likely that it was originally in that. Is it 23 April 1970 or have I got this wrong?

The date code is 23/4/70 but the engine number is too late for that date code. It must have been restamped. QT529xxx is close to the end of HQ. The block is probably from a late HT or early HG. Most likely has 308 on the side but could possibly have HP.

Hi Guys.

A casting date of D236 would line up with the engine number. Could the last digit be a 6 not a zero ?

Dr Terry.
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

I don't think that's possible Terry as from memory Holden had switched away from US date codes by that stage. 23/4/76 should have 23D6. Plus by that stage engine numbers from my records are around Qx66xxxx.

Thx Byron, Dr T. It has a 308 stamp on the side of the block. It's definitely a 0 on the casting number. What Byron's saying seems to be the most logical. Anyway, it works for me until I find my Jxx1 (sep 1971) date coded 308 block or QT engine ....so if
