Hey boys and Girls!
Bit bored at the moment so i thought i'd plan a new toy.
What's the best way to Drop a 350 chev into a VL for a bit of racing and burnout work?
Yes, i know most people will say 'put the 308 in it' but i don't want to. The chev option will be alot more powerful and will have more bang for buck. I might even stroke it to 383 down the track.
What is needed to perform this conversion and is it very straightforward?
I'm sure the proffessionals on this forum will point me in the right direction.

Cheers
Alex

hmm, that sounds a little bit like what im doing, Tell me, How did you get it in there? did you use one of those conversion kits from CRS? or did you make your own? would the 350 block just simply bolt up to the mounts?

Cheers
Alex

how much of this stuff is applicable to VL's? and will the extractors fit the carburetted 350 in the a VL? it's all just fiddly stuff that could make or break a project like this.
Any Guidance from you Byron?
Cheers
Alex

Can't help with GenIII - I drive one but never touched it.
You could also simply stroke the standard VL 304 to 350 or 377 and then not even worry about Engineering. You'd have to upgrade the trimatic to a TH350 or 400 though (both are standard in VB-VH s

Nah i don't want a GEN III. I'll stick with what i know. And plus i already have a 350 block and 400 crank lined up. Byron, do i need a conversion kit for this? or will it bolt straight in? parts are cheap, power is plentiful etc etc. yadda yadda yadda i

oh and plus, the cost of a GEN III is alot more than the cost of a 350, i'm not looking for economy as it will be a burnout machine, and a little bit of racing too. I'll also run it on dual fuel.

Look buddy, I know you're just trying to help, but i really don't want a GEN III in burnout/drag car. It seems like a great idea for a street car, but that's not what this is for. And the cost will be a lot more than a 350 conversion. Power is power. torq

If it doesn't need to be registered, just engine mount adapters, extractors, radiator. Rest is just wiring, fuel connections, accelerator linkages etc.
TH400 and tailshaft can be sourced from a VB.

Check this out:

What's the story behind these do you reckon? do they use the old engine mounts with

The TH400. You should be able to buy adapters from CRS. The VL turbo radiator won't be big enough for a burnout car for a SBC 350 or 377. You'll need a burnout king (Aussie desert Coolers) or something like that. A stroked 308 probably won't get as hot.

That's what I meant by adapters.
And you'll need a front hump sump, again another reason why I reckon a stroked 308 is better suited to a VL than a SBC.

Took a look, i still have to ring them up, but the closest i could find was a GEN III Adaptor kit for the early commys. Would this be the same as a 350 chev. This leaves my options open if they are the same mounts.

Cheers
Alex
