G'day,
I find that when I am driving my HT ute, it tends to drift from time to time across the road, not too much but enough to concern me. What causes this and how do I fix it?
I am running 215 tyres on the front and 225's on the back. Probably nothing to do with it.
I reckon the steering needs tightning up but I don't really know.

Any idea's?

if you haven't got excess play in the steering I'd say you have the famous cracking and flexing of the floor pan around the rear spring mounts.... My mate lost his incredible EH ute that way, the floor pan just snapped way from the rear hanger and sent hi

Yeah, I do have a bit of play in the steering. What you have described sounds hideous.
Any other ideas?

On a HT if it pulling one way it could be as simple as a wheel alignment.If it is drifting all over the road when you are holding the steering wheel straight ahead it could be anything from balljoints to tierod ends, control arm bushs, idler arm movement,

Cheers for your replies.

Its not too dramatic, ie, not jumping into other lanes but it does tend to drift a little. I have booked it in for a wheel alighnment already so I'll see if that fixes it.
With extra play in the steering wheel, is it possible

YES
ON THE STEERING BOX AT THE BOTTOM
there is a nut and a screw....noosen the nut and tighten the screw 1/4 a turn at a time
then drive it to see if any better........if not can get recond kit from rare spares

Do you mean Recond kit for the steering box?

Also something to look at is the idler arm is mounted on a thread. For some reason you can buy the bracket that the arm mounts on (known as an idler assembly) but not the arm.

To take the slack out of the idler arm just unbolt the bracket & thread
