Hello to all - you have cool forum going on here!

I'm moving to QLD in July from South Africa, and would love to get a older Holden as a project car.
I'm not sure as to the local model nomenclature,as Holdens were badged here as Chevrolets, but the model I'm after is a 1970-1971 four door saloon ,sold here as the Chevrolet Commando, and was available with a 4.1 litre inline six cyllinder motor.
It might have been badged as a HQ or similar in Aussie.

The neighbours had one in white when I was a primary school kid,and I have lusted after one ever since.
Most South African cars are now used as chicken coops in the rural area known as the Transkei.
Are they still commonly available in Australia?

They are pretty easy to come by in varying levels of condition and price. Once you recognised the model you are after use ebay as a guide for price as well as other aussie car sales sites such as http://carsguide.news.com.au/
Good luck with it. :)

Aha!,thanks Scottie. From that list my most desireable cars are the HK,as you said, but also the HQ.

My dad owned a HQ UTE with a 4.1 litre six and three speed manual tranny in the seventies.
I can still remember the day when we drove it, brand new, of

Another very useful site has a very valuble resource that different users have put together that you will find very handy. You may find that some(possibly all) of the south african holdens were fitted with chev in-line sixes. I know af at least a few that

Out of interest how sought after and what price are the Chev ss/ holden monaro two door models from the late 60's early 70's over there. I know of a few people who are looking for them to import as the aussie comparative models are skyrocketing in price.

Thanks for all the use full info guys!

Scottie: The Monaros were very ,very rare and the last one I saw was in 1990,when a buddy bought one for R1500 (about 450 aus$ at current exchange rates).

Old cars don't survive well in Africa, most are scrap by
