I need to get the vinyl roof off my HT Brougham to fix rust that is bubbling the roof up. A couple of questions before I break something.

How do I get the stainless steel trims around the rear window off?

What about the badges on the rear pillars, are there nuts inside the shell holding these on? Do I need to disturb the hood lining?

The moulding around the sides and front just pops off the plastic clips I guess?

Thanks in advance.

Howdy,
Don't know much about the vinyl roofs, but if the trim you're talking about is around the rear window like it is around the windscreen, the whole window needs to come out to safely remove the trim. If you try & remove the trim with the window in y

I dont know about the HT but my HQ has a vinyl roof and I had the same issue. Those chrome trims. If you have a HT Service manual it should tell you how to do it. In the HQ manual they tell u how to and show u the tool. I made my own tool out of a 6" stee

beige hornet is correct, i've just looked in my HK manual and it says you must remove the whole window (front/rear) before removing the shiny stuff.

Hi Guys.

AFAIK the HK/T/G Broughams are unique in that they have an 'Island' vinyl roof that does not go near the front screen. The mouldings go around the roof above the gutter & the front windscreen. I think only the the rear screen has to be removed

I seem to recall my old HK Monaro had the same island roof as Dr Terry describes, with only the rear of the vinyl going down to the rear screen. Never really understood why they did that. My HQ Statesman has Vinyl covering the full roof (screen to screen)

Hi Guys.

HK/HT/HG Monaros did it the other way around, the rear screen didn't touch the vinyl. but the front screen does.

My HG Prem had the vinyl that went under the windscreen. You had to pull out the glass to get the vinyl offn adn definately glass out to get the stainless trim off. I had premier badges that came off with a gentlr pry from a screwdriver.

Just on this topic... does anyone actually put vinyl *back* after taking it off during a resto?

Or do most people replace it with paint?
