Wiring solenoid (Bosch starter) on a red motor.

Hoping someone can help with refitting starter motor solenoid connectors. It is a 186 in an EJ, but I imagine as it is a Bosch, these have been used for countless models! I have 3 wires to connect- main cable from battery, red wire & a deep purple wire. Holden factory manual lists the main battery cable & red fuse-board wires on one solenoid terminal post, and purple to the ignition switch to another post? But unfortunately I simply marked both red & purple as ‘starter’, and forget which went to which solenoid terminal! Can anyone confirm which wire fits to which terminal (see crude diagram): (one terminal has the copper wire running to the motor)  Thanks for any help (new motor in, all wiring done, just need this last bit to crank her over!!) Hi HarryO.
What you haven't shown in your diagram is the 3rd (small) terminal. It is located at 6 o'clock on your diagram, if we accept that the 2 thick studs are at 3 o'clock & 9 o'clock (hope you can understand that).

Cheers. I forged ahead & fitted red & main to the 3 o'clock. Electrics came to life with no issues. Tried the purple to 9 o'clock, earthed, and so-forth. No response. It is a small fork connection, which wouldn't fit these. Thank you. Off to start the old

If the last terminal is there it could be bent backwards like the one in this image HarryO, it is a simple push on terminal.  I haven't got any better photos than that in the work guides

Hi HarryO.
Are you using the EJ starter or one off a 186. If you're using the EJ starter, the terminal is no more than just a screw that might be screwed up tight, so it just looks like part of the assembly of the cap & not an electrical connection. Th |

Thank you guys. Appears manifold & exhaust is coming back off...
Unfortunately I cannot see the bottom of the solenoid from any angle, thanks to the damn extractors. There is certainly no spade showing. all I can 'feel' is a protruding bump much more p

Hey HarryO try to find a small mirror to get a better look underneath before taking it all back off. Also, if you have extractors I recommend investing in the smaller later model starter motor, they're hi-torque so will start the car better and you can ac

Good stuff HarryO, much easier than dropping the extractors and manifold back off I bet! For interests sake here is the image to the hi-torque compared to original starter motor I mentioned above, these are a terrific starter motor and you can't go past t

And there is another trick from the chevs which may help with hot starting (especially if you do not have a great deal of clearance (clarence).
