Just purchased a 186s motor .
Stipped her down a bit and i am unsure of the cam .
At some time in her life she has been recoed buy GEM, (The date next to the oil filter is stamped 79) .
The top of pistons has 060 (60 thou over size)
On the cam gear it reads GEM and thats all.
Is there any way to tell ifs its normal cam or a 1/3 ect ???
Thanks

If you have access to a pair of verniers measure the lobes on the cam.Measure the lobe at its max width and write it down then Measure it at its min width and write it down.If you subtract the min width from the max width you are left with the amount of l

Yes it is around that. A mild performance cam is about 280 thou lift. One of the LJ Bathurst grind cams had about 304 thou lift.
A bit of info on cam selection is here

If you are interested.

Hi charlie.

I think those numbers should read 31.5mm & 37.5mm, I don't think the cam is going to have 60mm lift.

Anyway that equals 0.236" at the cam or 0.354" at the valve, sounds fairly small. It really depends how accurate your measurement was.
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Measured wilst its in the motor .
bit of trouble fitting the callipers in, so it's probably not the best measurment.
Hopefully some one might know what the numbers mean!!
Thanks
