Mate has just bought a quite tidy VC SL/E, the 253 which is painted blue, has the prefix of 253H ----. The date code which I can't decipher, taken from just behind the timing cover, reads G 6 9. Is this motor a HT HG one or does the date code prove the block has been restamped?? Thanks in advance

253H is a HT-G prefix , it would have been painted blue by one of its previous owners to match the car, I did the same with a 72 HQ motor painted it holden blue and put it in my WB.

Date cide actually proves it's original ie 6/7/69. You'll find the block is actually worth something rather than scrap value like most 253's.

What is different about these early 253s. I have a VH 253 Blue motor, can this blue motor have a 4" bore in it safely? I can get a couple of red 253s from a neighbour, would one of these with dome tops and a warmish cam be a better option than a stock s Edited by user Saturday, 30 June 2007 10:25:48 PM(UTC)

You only have to be in front at the end of the race. |

Hi Guys.
There is not enough metal wall thickness to bore a 253 out to 4". A 253's standard bore size is 3.625". That means you would be boring it a further 0.375". That's 3/8" (or nearly 10mm for the metric heads) which is a big ask for any cyinder bl |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

My point about it's value is to someone restoring a HT/G Monaro.
