Fitted & rewired new 186 engine to my Ej a few months ago, including replacement of alternator (Bosch from the replacement engine) & new battery.

Battery is vented cap type. After a run, some liquid on the top of the battery is found. Batt fluid? I don't know, but couldn't be much else. My fear is that I have somehow rewired the alternator incorrectly, cooking the battery?

Not sure, searches turn up nil. Before I start mucking around with regulators, is there some electrical fault that could cause this? Charges A1, starts first time all the time. May be worrying about nothing here, but I have learnt not to!

Cheers.

Hi Harryo,

Yes its battery fluid. This can be caused by an overfull battery cell, OR the alternator is overcharging the battery.

Poss the battery is underated for the alternator. I have accidently duplicated the same thing with a battery charger on

more likely the alternator regulator is stuffed. Any battery place or auto electrician will check the charge rate for you, and seeing as you have a new battery go back to place you bought the battery off and ask nicely they most likely won't charge you an
