just finally purchased a hz panel van in original condition to find that when i park/drive it in the rain the side windows leak (all four) the seals for the windows are joined on the bottom and have a very small gap,is this normal? any ideas how to stop it?

It is possible the sills around the window have rusted out, a common problem.

thanx, any other opinions or advice on how to fix this problem and how hard is it to remove the windows?

Well if you don't feel comfortable in removing and then resealing the windows, call a windscreen specialist, they'll be able to diagnose the problem straight away.
