Another wonderful question, from yours truly..
if you have one tonne, moving at 3klms per hour, what is the potential energy? in kw?
uuummm? dont even know whether it is a valid question?
be great to get some feedback.
cheers

It has no potential energy in the purist sense unless it's on a hill with the brakes on. It has kinetic energy k = 0.5 x m x v x v (half m v squared) m = mass, v = velocity (speed in the wb's case assuming it is going in a straight line). If it's going ar

see,,see,!! I knew it would be dr terry or byron, who would have the knowledge to answer this?? now byron, it has nothing to do with cars at this stage,, but I was trying to do a ruff calculation, of the potential energy, of one tonne of water, travellin

Hi fallingbear.

There will be lots of noughts because the velocity is squared, i.e. 3,000m/s x 3,000m/s. (Then multiply this by 3,600 x 3,600 to convert seconds to hours) This results in 116.64 x 12 noughts. If you then multiply it by 1000 (kg) x 0.5,
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

hey thanks dr terry,
11.6 cubic metres, is the average amount of water flowing down the murray, taken across its width and depth.? I just felt it was easier to just use 1 cubic metre, to estimate the potential?
now this madness all started, cause i am
