Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anyone can tell me anything about the differences between the two HQ 350 variants? I tried getting an exchange power steering pump from Australian Power Steering for 350 Statesman but they only had one type for the 350 and it was wrong. Plus I tried a heap of other suppliers who couldnt help.
I've heard there are two different types of 350s in the HQ. Mine is a Feb 1974 with engine number 12L525xxx and there is no ADR27 or ADR28 listed on the plate, and no carbon canister. The power steering pump low and high pressure pipes point down and not towards the firewall.
Someone said I had the early 350 variant which had more BHP and no ADR27 or 28, but being a Feb 1974 I thought it would be a late one? I've seen a similar Statesman 350 built in April 74 that had ADR27 and 28 listed.
If anyone could help out that would be greatly appreciated. thanks Rhys

To be an original Holden 350 the engine number should start with 11QU or QU. Despite that it may just have been an exchanged block. Hopefully Warren will be able to help you out on the changes to the 350 between 1971 and 1974

Thanks Byron. I was going by the number on the rego paper as I don't have the vehicle with me at the moment. The complete number on the rego paper is 12L525744V11020DD. To me it seems too long or must have been written down incorrectly sometime when it wa

I just had a look yesterday, and its got 12L525744 in small writing on the left, followed by a space, and then V1102CDD in larger print.
Just tried the link JBM, and it didnt work. Could you check to make sure its right?
thanks Rhys

I just tried it and it worked for me? The numbers it uses is the number near the dizzy, so you might have to climb over the back if its in a car.

V1102CDD
If you are researching a car that is supposed to be "matching numbers" then keep in mind that the engine date must precede the car build date, otherwise something is amiss. Some engine machining operations (decking) will obliterate the engin

Thanks JBM and ozchevy. I assume from the numbers that there is no way that it could be the original engine that the car had out of the factory?
What is the usual difference in dates between when the engine was cast and when it was put in the vehicle.

Yes they were all imported but from Canada for HQ, not the US.

I had a Sydney built 10/73 HQ350 Statesman and the engine was built(assembled) 12/72 in the US. But it would differ from plant to plant in Australia, and also if you had a manual or automatic vehicle. If you are looking for the right engine for your car t

Not really only that it is the engine for your car, built in Canada on the 26th of September.
If the engine was replaced by mechanic then there is a good chance it was an exchange engine, so if it was sent to repco it could now be anywhere in Australia
