I just picked up a GMP&A replacement VL motor(N5J prefix). I was under the belief that VL motors are 4.9/304. However the crank has 308 on one of the counter weights. Does this mean it is a 308/5.0L crank. Or are the 304/4.9L cranks machined with a shorter stroke, but still have 308 on them. Short of measuring the stroke, how can I determine whether it is a 308, or 304.

You will need to measure the offset of the stroke to tell if it's a 304 or 308 crank.
