why is it that the body number & the plate body number on these early type monaros never seem to match one plate will say 200 & the body its self would be 5000 is it because they used the body next in line as long as it was 2 door or did holdens have some sort of system going

It depends on the plant. Some used a sequential body number on the BODY plate for the model, and some used a sequential number for the code. A Brisbane built HK has a sequential body number for Brisbane HKs, whereas a Sydney one is sequential for the Sydn |

The numbers cary from state to state, eg Sydney and Adelaide numbered the cars sequencially by body and luxury level. eg there will be a number 1 Belmont ute, Belmont sedan, Belmont wagon, Prem sedan, Prem wagon etc

well sounds like they had some kind of system going but sydney & adelaide made a fine mess of chassis numbers so how did they define a manual car auto car etc as it came down the line if 20 manual cars were ordered they would have to have those pre press

The car was odered, then production started. As the car started the right floor pans etc had to be fitted and this is when the chassis number was assigned. There were only a couple of floor pans anyway, these were :
crash box Saginaw all others
