About a year ago I picked up a HQ monaro coupe from Melbourne. The owner claimed it was an LS monaro but before I actually paid for it I did some net searching and think it is actually is a V8 GTS. It definately has some GTS options ie Dash, steering wheel and guards but looks more like a LS with twin headlights and crome skirts. To add to the confusion it has a 350 with turbo 400 and 9" driveline. Can someone please cast an eye over these numbers and clear it up for me please??
Drivers side plate reads Holden HQ Coupe 10/71 BHQ167##M
Chassis Stamp reads 167##M
VIN reads 80837QJ304671
Body (pasengers side) HQ 80837 BODY No 16596M TRIM 1831-10Y PAINT 567 13126
The Car is not original colour as I changed the dash pad and body colour under there is a gold and outside is currently painted blue. Interior is also not original as in black and blue velour. Someone has spent some serious money on this car at some stage and is currently at 90% perfect condition and Im unsure whether to take it all the way or not. Any help will be much appreciated. THANKS

It a V8 GTS. 1831 is Etruscan Gold metallic, and 10Y is black with black & white houndstooth inserts. Sounds like it was a nice car. Ill see if I can find out if it was a 253 or 308 and whether it was auto or manual.

No, it looks about right. It was a 253 4spd with 3.08 diff and no other mechanical options (air, steer, LSD etc). If you email me ther is one other item I can tell you.

Leave it as it is. If HQ prices go silly then change it over later. Just grab all the original stuff now whilst its still around. If you were restoring it Id tell you to do it original but use a 308 block.
