hi i have a hz 1tonner 5ltr efi on gas with turbo400 diff ratio 3.55
my prob is this thing goes thru fuel like crazy avg 25 to 27 ltres per 100ks I want to change the diff & Im thinking 2.60 or 2.78 I have heard this will make it very sluggish on take off but really how sluggish are we talking? I also know the 3.08 is supposed to be the ducks guts but realistically is that going to really change the fuell consumption that much? I welcome all sugestions & appreciate your time & effort thanks PS this is a standard 5 litle has a gas cam, heads have been flowed, engined decked, standed t400 14" wheels bye

Hi leotard I had a HZ wagon with a 253/trimatic and 2.78 diff
it was very nice too drive on the highway and good around town
it ran at 2200 revs on the road doing 100ks as for being slow off the mark it was no racecar but it was a good old bus for me

A 2.78 is definitely going to help with your fuel consumption and while there will be some decrease in acceleration I dont think it will really affect your driving experience especially if its just driven around town and not treated as a race car.

I would have thought what combo you had now would have been good.
i think top gear on a T700 is 0.8:1.

2.78 may be a bit tall with the T700, unless your a country bloke..
maybe go to an auto gas guy and get them to measure the ratio of carbon dioxide
Old holdens brought on the spot, quick decision, cash paid.
