Does anyone know it there is either a manual or an automatic gearbox that will fit onto the 253 that has a smaller case. I have a 253 with a M21 4 speed and it has an very large case that hits onto the top of the tunnel on the car we would like to fit it into.
Can anyone suggest something more suitable as we dont want to modify the transmission tunnel. We are told the 320 Windsor and the C4 would fit perfectly but I'm a Holden man.

Alright then so your saying the case part that bolts to the back of the engine is best when using the powerglide case, can I still bolt my M21 4 speed box to that case.

You are talking about the bellhousing? If so then the answer is no. If the stoch Holden 253/308 4spd bellhouising won't fit then there is no other that will fit with that engine and box.
