I knew it is illegal to ride in the back of a ute but I didnt know it is still legal to ride in the back of a panelvan as long as all the cabin seats are occupied.
So you can legally carry five people in a two seater panelvan, the driver, one in the passengers seat and three in the back.

I highly doubt it would be legal. If the compliance plate lists seating capacity as 2, then theres no way in the world you can have 3 unrestrained passengers in the back.

You may get away with retro-fitting a bench front & centre seatbelt to increase
Cheers,

Mick

Kind of on that question. Has anyone had any experience with installing extra seats in the back of a van? I was thinking of putting something like this

behind the seats in the sandm

When I was a kid my Dad took 6 kids to the Easter show in the back of a Morris Mini Panelvan. I dont think they had the seating capacity plate on them.

About 12 months ago the ACT government discovered that it was perfectly legal to travel in the back of any vehicle if all of the seating positions were already full.
They changed that law immediately.

His head hit the back of the bench seat (or bulkhead
