Hi everyone...first up , i have read thru lots of posts and still dont quite get it...lol..... my issue is this... i have put a 202 with electronic dizzy into my ht( ex 186 points)and now, as i beleive , i need to give the coil a 12 volt supply for ignition..( it wont start atm .. it has gas installed too.. i need to know what kind of a relay should i buy ? and how exactly do i hook it up? I have a yellow ignition wire, a brown wire to the coil neg for the gas.. it appears that my starter motor switching wire is not working either? but when i use a screwdriver to hot wire it, or run 12 volts from the battery, it will crank over..
is this all related to the 12 volt coil supply?
I know its not too technical for some, but i am getting a little lost....and does a relay have to be wired wiuth a + and - to power it , and then an ignition wire in and then back out to the coil + ?
I have an old light relay from another HT , but it only has 2 brass connector tabs..can i use this?
Thanks for the enlightenment :)
Anthony

Hi,

My honest opinion, is to forget your relay, and get your engine running again with temporary wires, until you have found the problem.

Your cranking issue wont be to do with the coil - a starter motor will turn the motor over until the battery fl

ozjason what do you mean by orientation as the points system and it wont start ? i have all the gear to do the change and can get 12volts from ignition by bypassing the balest wire but not sure what position to put the dizzy in to make sure it fires chee

Hey John,

I actually cheated - I took my points dizzy out (and took note of which way around it was pointing when I took it out), and didnt let the engine move. So when I put my electronic dizzy in, I just had to account for the slight twist it makes

Gday all,

set your motor to top dead centre No1 compression stroke( if in doubt remove #1 plug and stick your finger in the hole and turn the engine over by hand when

first off all go back to the basics to see where the problem is.

pull a plug lead and check for spark. if NO spark jump a wire directly from battery to the positive side of the coil and see if it starts. if it starts it was wired up wrong.

if it HAS

The reason vintageholden that your car runs worse is that balisresistor wire that was talked about. With the old coil the car only needs about 8volts while running but a electronic dizzy needs 12 all the time. Hook the dizzy to 12volts and see if it impro

The pink wire is the "gay wire" - best off not connecting it to anything.

Another possible reason for an engine not running as well after installing an electronic dizzy, is that the spark gap on your plugs may be too small for electronic ignition.

A points system needs about 0.9mm from memory, but electronic ignition may wor

Ok, i have had a go at installing the positive wire to the coils straight from the battery and it now cranks over....BUT, it wont fire up properly, i sprayed aerostart down the manifold , it fires a little bit and then wont run on... maybee the gas is c

id be checking the wiring for the lpg. make sure the valves are opening for gas supply. there should be a safety cut out switch that runs ignition power. another wire should be run from the negative side of the coil to the switch. once the the switch sens
