Hi all,

I have a 1976 F100 with a 302 Clevo....the othe day I drove it abot 60 k's and on returning I turned it off and went to restart it soon after....but it cranked slowly and eventually stopped.

The next day I jump started it...which worked fine....after it started fine I turned it off and charged the battery...I noticed the water level in the battery to be low so I topped them up.

After recharging it I started it up and checked the voltage and it read 17-18.5 Volts at idle....I then replaced the volatge regulator and still the same....I also have re-wired and teminated all wiring between Alternator, Voltage Reg and battery.

But still the same starts of at 13.8 volts....but climbs all the way to 16.8 volts....a little better but still not right.

Any ideas...I was thinking alternator but wouldnt that put out a low voltage if it has failed or was on its way out.

The numbers on the alternator are:- ( For info )

912006C816

U-K1 14V 40A 22

76DA-10300-A

Motorcraft

Anyway I hope someone can help me out....if it is the alternator what do they cost to replace!!!

Cheers Matt!

Sounds to me like CATFORD needs to clear the cob webs from his wallet and buy a multimeter that costs more than $9.99 from Supercheap? Com\on CAT, inform us all- what was the problem?

Also I was told to be carful as your battery can explode with the water running dry and you should be able to smell the acid cooking to.
