Just saw the new VE ute ad during the 1st half of the Footy Grand final. Good ad, but was surprised by the omission of a VG-VS ute. The ad starts with FJ, morphs into EH, HK, HQ and then VU before becoming a VE. Most major evolutions of the Holden ute are included, but the VG-VS isnt. Unless they are claiming that that shape is a Commodore ute and not a Holden ute?? (I suppose the purists would also say that a FE-EK and a HD/R are also missing). This is probably also the first time since HQ that Holden have released a brand new shape model, and introduced the commercials later and still called them the same model designation ie VE. In the two variants in between where the same thing has happened (VG and VU) the commercials got a different designation to the existing sedan range (VN and VX) but then aligned with the next model (VP and VY). It may just be that the VG and VU didn't come until much later?

Yes, you are spot on there. The VG & VU ute weren't really in the planning stage when the VN & VT were being designed, where all the others except perhaps the FX where included in the original design process. In fact the FX ute was really a ' |

I personally was pretty happy that the FJ and EH utes fairly well represented the early years, that HK represented HK-HG and HQ represented HQ-WB but the lack of at least a VG sort of does not seem quite right, especially that it was a milestone model in Edited by user Monday, 1 October 2007 9:52:39 PM(UTC)

considering the VS ute was the longest single running model (april 1995 - aug 2000) then surely it should have at least got a mention in the images.

Agree, but Id be claiming VG-VSIII (9/1990-8/2000) as the second longest running body shape ute, after HQ-WB (1971-1985). Probably followed by VU (2000-2007) then FE-EK and HK-HG. Unfortunately only two of these made the cut though!

Agree, but I'd be claiming VG-VSIII (9/1990-8/2000) as the second longest running body shape ute, after HQ-WB (1971-1985). Probably followed by VU (2000-2007) then FE-EK and HK-HG. Unfortunately only two of these made the cut though!

Could the reason for the VG, VU designation be that the VN and VT had undergone a number of changes and were into series II, therefore to have a VN series II or VT series II ute would indicate that there was a series I out there????

The XX8 VN upgrade wasnt badged a Series 2 & the VU ute is actually a VX I (3 months after VX I release).
Im not sure why the model codes differ, but the same applies to VQ & V2. I think it must be that the sub-series was designed well af |
