Hi All,

When shifting to 1st gear with my foot on the brake and the car stationary with the engine running, the gearbox makes a clunk (while the shifter is moving from 2 to 1). Ive never experienced this with any vehicle I've had that were automatic, including a few trimatics. It almost feels like its coming from the rear of the car, ie diff. It's an '84 WB Caprice. It doesn't have any other clunks in the driveline when changing up/down. I don't need to go into 1st but would be interesting to know why its doing it.

thanks
Rhys

I had this problem in my 202 trimatic when I first got it & hard/delayed shifting, but mine had been sitting for a along time & had not been serviced very well, I did some reading of the trimatic fault diagnosis service manual & found it can be caused by

Thanks Kevin,

That's good to know. It is probably the same problem with mine as it was sitting for about 2 years before I bought it. I'll start with changing the fluid and adding the treatment and see how it goes.

cheers
