Now thats interesting we have a 253 and was told its an early one, where abouts is the cast year located and will it actually have like 68,69,70,71,72 and so one. Is it June 75 when the Australian Design Rules came in.

Casting number is on the front, just behind the timing cover, on the top. Will look like 5G9, 31A2 etc for engines post 1973 (approx). Prior to that it would be G59 or A312 for the same codes.

Date codes need to read in conjunction with the engine prefix, block colour is not a good indicator of engine age.

You only have to be in front at the end of the race.

use engine number prefix also, if you are confused by the date codes.
eg. WB 1984 253 Blue WR prefix
HQ 1974 253 Red QR prefix
etc. etc.
