An engine and trans Ive purchased, Chev 383/Turbo 400 has either the wrong Drive Plate or the wrong Torque Convertor.. the three threaded bolt holes in the torque convertor don't match up with the holes in the drive plate.. the drive plate holes seem 10mm too far outwards..

So.. do I need a different drive plate or a different torque convertor?

Pics:

And if I need a new drive plate.. does anyone know the name of the bolts that hold the drive plate on the crank.. they have a different shaped head..

With thanks,

Duncan.

AFAIK most stroked 302/327/350 blocks to 377 cubes use a 400 style crank which is externally balanced, so you need a 400 (or externally balanced) flex plate. The one on that motor looks like a made up plate. The one you want will be to suit a TH400 onto a

OK.. I spoke to a local trans place today and they have a Big Block torque convertor that will suit the drive plate.. so that solves that problem.. onto the next one! :)

So it must be a big block flex plate? You can see on the bottom of the photo where they've balanced it I think.

Yes, I checked.. those weld marks hold a peice of steel on the back.. The auto guy said it is a big block flex plate, youre right.

If I had ended up changing the flex plate would I then have had to take the engine to some kind of engineering joint to h
