Ok, ive got an HQ. Just got some slot mags/jellybean mags for it. Had been searching for a long time, thought i had the perfect set. Mint! Anyway, of course, they don't fit. I was told they would, and they've even got an old, faded sticker on one of the rims listing it as a Holden rim, with markings saying both "HQ" and Trans Am. Apparently they came of a chev. These GM makes shared dimensions didn't they?
The PCD is a match, but the diameter of the bolt holes is larger than what was on there (old school performance mags)..and the diamter of the central hole, that locates the wheel on the hub, is also larger.
Any ideas? Will it require a hub swap, is this achievable? I'm far from a novice, but i've never had an old Holden before so am yet to become totally familiar. I'm thinking maybe the hubs were swapped out to suit the Performance mags? And so going to standard HQ would solve the problem?

Hi the centre hole doesnt matter if its bigger. It prob just has a cap that goes on the rim that covers the hub and so long as this goes on without hitting the hub its ok.
The holes for the wheel nuts are suppose to be bigger than a Standard rim as the |

Yeah, that's the style.
I've often heard that it's not ideal to support a wheel on the studs, rather than the hub spiggot? But that it's not critical?

Go to a wheel place and ask to see old fashioned mag wheel nuts. Then youll understand. Id also get some centre sleeves made up to fit the mags properly on your hubs. Good insurance against broken wheel studs and loss of a wheel. Ive had it happen twice u |

Go to a wheel place and ask to see old fashioned mag wheel nuts. Then you'll understand. I'd also get some centre sleeves made up to fit the mags properly on your hubs. Good insurance against broken wheel studs and loss of a wheel. I've had it happen twic |

I think you would be better off talking to a custom wheel specialists to make sure you get it right. Those old mags caused quite a few problems in their day which is why they dont make them like that any more.

Wow, thats interesting about the lugs taking the load. Id read otherwise in tech articles. Your point about clearances really makes it quite obvious.
The principle of the taper nuts im well aware of, but whats stopping me from making a set of nuts that |
