Hi, wondering if anyone can help. Checked out a mates 89 or 90 vn ss, the previous owner had apparently seized the original engine ( 5Lt efi )due to coolant loss so had it replaced, I had a look at the engine number the other day and it starts with HSV - what does this mean ? The engine looks the same as other VN SS engines - not painted red or anything - it has a transport department plate on the firewall stating that the car had a different engine fitted in it in 2002 - ie, different block and engine no.
Its possible that the old efi and inlet manifold was fitted to new engine ??
Did all VN SS engines have a HSV prefix ??
If not then what might be inside this block ?? car has a lot of power !!
Thankyou.

There is no such thing as a HSV prefix.

The standard prefix is VU, and a service replacement (from GMH) is SU.

There are other prefixes for things like the SV5000 & VN Group A, but even then they still follow the same V* pattern - being VE & VK resp
Cheers,

Mick
