Just a question to appease my curiosity: In NSW (dont know about other states) if you have a 202 you can only increase engine size by 15% so the biggest V8 you can fit with out an engineers certificate is a 253. Can and does a VN V8 injection system work on a 253? I know its been done on 308s, any comments?

What car are you talking about. Holdens have had V8s since the HT, so why is there an increase limit dilemma? The amount of work to put a 253 in a car is the same as a 308 in terms of engineering. The only car your query would apply to is a LC, LJ or UC T Edited by user Sunday, 21 October 2007 7:21:36 AM(UTC)

Doesnt matter what car HQ-WB for example or Early Commodores or LH/X toranas if the compliance plate states that it was fitted with a 202 you can increase engine size, with out an engineers certificate, by 15%. So the biggest engine legaly in NSW that can |

Not true. ANY HQ can have a 350 (plus 15%) without Engineering. Any HJ-WB can have a 308 (+15%) without Engineering. You just turn up and get a blue slip.
253 and 308 blocks are identical externally, so the injected top end will bolt straight on. The V |

Yes you can fit VN style EFI to a 253. If you fit an aftermarket ECU(or rechip the standard). However if you are changing an originally carby car to EFI. You technically need an engineer's cert anyway. Cheers.

Thanks Byron it looks as though I stuffed up on my understanding of the rule its a 15% increase on the largest engine avaliable for that model, not the engine it came with. OK so the extend this question a little futher if the VN heads are to big for a 30 |

You can do either. The blocks are to all extents and purposes identical (if you forget the VSIII and VT roller cam engines). If you fit the later model engine to HT-WB, LH-UC or VB-VL you will need an Engineers report. Basically all you have to do is keep |

Correct me if i'm wrong, but don't the valves on the VN heads hit the sides of the smaller bore 253?
You could always make an injection set-up like i did (if you have a TIG,patience,no nagging woman in your life,no life anyway, other toys to take up your
