I just bought a blue 253 out of a vk to vl Commodore which was supposed to be a Police Pursuit motor . I know nothing about this engine except that the eng. no. is VR 255875 . In QLD we had Yellow Police Pursuit Commodores which were a special issue . Could anyone please tell me if ....* there is any advantage in one of these engines over a 253 Red motor out of a HQ-Hx ?....*Was there anything special about these engines ?....Would this motor be suitable for a 1973 HQ Coupe with a stock Trimatic and a 3.08 LSD ?

PLEASE DON"T SUCK THE YELLOW SNOW

A VR prefixed 253 is just a normal blue 253. Only advantage over a red 253 is the 4BBL manifold and HEI dizzy. In fact you will be better off with a red 253 out of a HT-HJ to avoid having to fit ADR27A or worse pollution equipment. Just fit a pre pollutio

With that engine number sequence, that motor is from a VC or extremely early VH (more likely a late VC).

You can confirm it from the casting date on the front of the block, above the water pump, on the flat section behind the heater hose, below the the

It depends on the aftermarket dizzy. You'll be able to use the Quaddy that came with the blue motor, but you'll have to get an earlier 4 barrel manifold as the blue one won't fit. You'll also have to fit a manual choke conversion.
