Is the HR factory manual? or factory 2 sp auto ?
do you intend keeping bench seat?.
Do you intend to use original firewall linkage carby set up?
these are considerations too...

one thing is 4 sure, the 173 is out.

a little bit off topic, but, byron, if you were to transplant a V6 into an early commodore, which would you use? VN-VR or VS ecotec?

VN-VR better engine....well Byron they certainly put out more power by the VR ecotec it was 152kw I think to the 87 Nissans 114kw.......but of course an 94 nissan maxima put out more again too.
The Vn Vp have simipler and cheaper electrics than the V

VN-VR better engine....well Byron they certainly put out more power by the VR ecotec it was 152kw I think to the 87 Nissan's 114kw.......but of course an 94 nissan maxima put out more again too.

Yeah Byron I thought about a v6 for my wifes HR. but it is still not that common over here. and were I live I would have had to import the kit from Aussie, I figured cheaper and less hassle to do the RB30 as I can do most of it myself.

just a note: VR didn't have ecotec. VN - VR was around 125kW. VS upped the grunt with 147kW. pre ecotec conversions are alot cheaper, just wondering is it worth getting the ecotec for and extra 22Kw?

I think 125kw for VN VP
147kw for VR and
152 for VS which burnt oil.

if you buy kits off Pat gardner they are $1365 for VN VP and $1665 for VR and later....because of the electrics.

Muskell, the Small block Chevy V8 is over 50 years old, and the basic design is still very very competitive..
I am not sure how i got involved in this one.

Memorez, if you are going to sell it, just chuck the 186 in and flog it

Id put the 173 head on the 186, mild cam, decent headers and intake. You want reliable? My HJ with worked 179 is reliable as hell, the engine is now 11 years old, regular oil changes are the key! And NEVER thrash a cold engine!!!

Hey guys !! if it was me i would probably go the 186 5 spd combo ,, the old 186 was a great motor , I had 1 in a HG years ago ( my first car ) so it copped first car treatment , I took that thing too hell n back a couple of dozen times lol !! and the moto
