How do i go about it? Im assuming it's just a case of looking for an appropriate suffix or prefix?

Look at the prefix and compare to my website www.monaroparts.com engine number list.

A high comp 202 will have an #L..... prefix and was the common 202 used for domestic built cars and the low comp motor is #M.... and was manly used for export.

egs; JL - LJ; HL - LH, LX and UC; XQL - UC, QL - HQ, HJ, HX, and early HZ; ZL - HZ; VL - VB,

Correct me if Im wrong, but the only difference between LC and HC was the head used, right? So after 30 years, an engine may not have the same head and even if it does, its not a given that it hasnt been rebuilt somewhere along the years. So if youre wo

Hi Byron.

Yes, 138 (& 130) Reds used domed pistons to maintain a reasonably high compression with the std 149/161/173 type head. There are no lo-comp versions of these 2 little motors.

Agree on the 130 (CA, QA etc), but what about the 2250L, CC and HC engines. These were all 138 low compression. That is why the 173 were D and E prefixes as the 130 high comp was A, 138 high comp B and low comp C.
I thought the 138 used the same

I know the motors been replaced with what appears to be an unfettled 202. Not that it matters much as im just bolting the bottom end together after a full rebuild. Bored, cammed and twin carbied now.
