I got a factory holden shroud but the top of the flex fan hits the top of the shroud. My ideas to fix and not sure which is best option of if theres another way. Trim the fan say 10mm on each blade. Not sure if I could do it evenly.???? Slot the radiator bolt holes and lift the radiator up a bit. This will lift the shroud as its attached.??? Slot the holes in the shroud and lift that up.??? Put some small spacers between the bottom of the radiator holes and the car to bring the bottom of radiator out a little. This would make the top of the shroud come up a little.??? WHAT IVE TRIED SO FAR. I jacked up the transmisson a little to tilt the front of the engine down but it still hit shroud. If it worked I was going to bend the crossmember a little which I may have to do as the drive shaft is hitting my hand brake cable.?? Am I suppose to have that spacer between the pulley and the fan the one that brings it forward.??? Off to sand the bog in the lower back doors after welding them. :) If its not broke it will be soon |

If you have a HQ type plastic shroud the engine fan will hit it at the top edit: In a Torana. James

The fan is meant to be close to the radiator and the tips of the fan close to the shroud for maximum air draw.

Try taking the spacer out. If your cooling system is working properly you dont really need a shroud.

Get a seven blade and clutch hub (GMH) and you need a shorter spacer and the 4 studs. From what I can recall all of a v8 vk set up?

Hi Guys.
The problem is much more simple than anything mentioned so far.
You have the wrong shroud Keith !!
The shroud you have is to suit HQ-HZ with a 253/308 V8, while you appear to have a Small Block Chev.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Terry is right. You need a Holden 6cyl fan shroud, normally found on HZ 6cyl with aircon and taxis. The Rare Spares Chev one is very close. Use a viscous fan off a VN-VSIII 5litre and the appropriate spacer and studs to suit.

Ohhh nooo.. I got the shroud and it slightly hit my water outlet at the bottom.
It seemed to have a notch on the other side where if the outlet was on the other side it would fit over it.
So I got my grinder ahhhh and made a notch on the driver si |

You'll have to play around with the spacer and studs to suit the Chev. Go looking at 4 and 6cyl Commodores and Toranas once you have the fan and shroud in place. You want the fan about halfway in the shroud, halfway out. You might have to talk to Rare's |

So do Rare Spares actually stock the Fibreglass Shroud Chev into HQ.
If so any idea on cost, I have a split in mine which I was told the cost of repairing is near equal to a new one. Wasnt keen on just a repair anyways.

They list it. Just click on the SHOP ONLINE tab up the top and go to HQ-WB "shroud radiator fan"

I wouldn't bother with the AU twins, everyone I know who has used them is forever having to replace failed motors in them. VT-VZ twin fans seem to be so much more reliable.
